Driving around without registration

So today I learned we've been driving one of our vehicles almost two years with expired registration...
It's primarily DH car he's driven it too and from work every day plus what ever errands taken in on several trips etc... yet somehow we managed to not notice and completely miss two renewal dates.
The initial miss I kinda get. It was right around the death of my father. Things were hectic, we also gained a car during that time (my father's) and I can kinda see how we might of misplaced the initial registration kinda forgot about it.. However it's been 544 days since we were due.. like how?
We are legal now... Complete with an extra $76 heres to you bring stupid fine... But I'm still smh over this. So what unintentional buy dumb ass stuff have any of you done lately or ever?

A bunch of states don’t ask for a CDL for personal RV use, but some look at combined weight ratings, so I always double-check each state’s DOT page before a long trip. While sorting my paperwork, I also grabbed an international driving permit for a different trip, and it ended up being handy as a simple extra ID alongside my regular license.
